The NZGBC along with BRANZ and Beacon Pathway have collaborated together to design and develop a single residential rating tool for both new and existing homes. This industry initiative has been working to align with Government activities to form a public/private sector partnership to help raise the performance level of our homes.
The aim is to create a national standard for rating the performance of our homes – energy and water use, levels of insulation, efficiency of the heat source, health and comfort The home rating tool allows owners to assess their home’s performance and, to understand what further improvements would add greater comfort and more value.
This scheme is the start of an attempt to address how poorly our homes perform. The rating system will better equip the increasing number of home buyers who are becoming aware of the health and comfort benefits of choosing a home that performs well.
