The NZGBC along with BRANZ and Beacon Pathway have collaborated to design and develop a single residential rating tool for both new and existing homes. This industry initiative has been working to align with Government activities to form a public/private sector partnership to help raise the performance level of our homes.
The aim is to create a national standard for rating the performance of our homes – energy and water use, levels of insulation, efficiency of the heat source, health and comfort A home rating tool would allow owners to assess their home’s performance and, importantly, reflect the value of improvements. This is the start of an attempt to address how poorly our homes perform. The rating system will better equip the increasing number of home buyers who are becoming aware of the health and comfort benefits of choosing a home that performs well, It is still in its final testing stages and will be piloted in early 2010 ready for a launch by mid July 2010.
